President's Bits & Pieces

Jerry Miller

President@vvcclub.com

Hello Members,

I didn’t think I would be writing this Presidents Message. We have a crisis in the newsletter department. We need someone to take over as editor. At the last second, one of our current board members, Dave Olson, agreed to do this month’s Connections, the one you are reading right now.

I’m surprised that Dave would have stepped forward to do this, even for one month, as he is already one of our hardest working members.

Dave has been the Publicity Chair for several years and has done a bang up job. There are many things required of Dave to do that job. Let me mention just a few. If you read any of the local news-papers and have noticed various public service announcements of computer club meetings and activities, that is because of Dave’s continuous diligence. He keeps track of the publishing deadlines and copy requirements of at least six local publications and makes sure to submit them in a timely manner to best assure publication. Since these papers are published either weekly or bi-weekly, that represents a lot of activity. You will notice that there is seldom an issue that doesn’t have at least one notice of computer club activity. Most of the fliers and newsletter copies you might see around town are the result of placement by Dave. He also holds the positions of SIG coordinator, Statutory Agent, and mans the Door Prize ticket sales table at General Meetings. Dave is always there to set-up and remove the tables and chairs for the General Meeting. This is a lot for a single member. Should we now hope for or expect Dave to now take on the job of newsletter editor?

I believe there is someone in the club who would be great at this job. This is a chance to express your creativity in a very beneficial way. For example, the Connections has looked the same for many years. This is the opportunity for someone new to inject new ideas and reformat our newsletter into a reflection their own ingenuity. It would be fun.

Contact me now at president@vvcclub.com. I’ll be happy to talk with you, with no obligation.

We are also always looking for new members. Perhaps one of you has an acquaintance who has previous publishing experience but is not a club member. Perhaps you could approach that person. They might be interested in joining the club in order to be our new newsletter editor.

Perhaps you know someone who is bright and capable, but is bored or looking for something to do. You might mention this opportunity to become our newsletter publisher.

Remember, we will provide all the necessary software and training.

Among the many minds that make up our club, I feel confident that there shall be a great new editor is in our future.

Respectfully,

Jerry Miller
